Angela’s Ranch

Alfredo Marquez’s journey from farmworker to organic fig orchard operator is a testament to resilience and entrepreneurship. In 2014, he purchased a 2.3-acre property in Madera, California, and in 2021, he made a bold move—planting fig trees to maximize the land’s potential while adapting to the region’s climate. His choice was strategic: figs require minimal water and land, making them an ideal crop for the area.

By 2023, Alfredo’s dedication was paying off, generating $14,000 in sales from fresh organic Black Mission and dried figs. He has built strong relationships with local food aggregators like Sweet Valley and Golden Valley Produce in Fresno and previously worked with Watsonville Coast Produce, helping expand his market reach.

Now, Alfredo is collaborating with Kitchen Table Advisor to establish an account for supplying local food banks, underscoring his commitment to food security and community support. Living on the farm, he takes a hands-on approach to pest management and operations, ensuring high-quality, sustainable practices.

His harvest season runs from August to November, during which he hires local young people to assist—fostering community involvement while supporting his growing business.
