Ahiki Acres is a vegetable farm based in Waimānalo, Hawaii, dedicated to delivering fresh, high-quality produce to Oʻahu since 2019. Over the years, the farm has experienced steady growth, now generating $220,000 annually, serving 200 individual customers, and partnering with local restaurants. Known for its strong market presence, Ahiki Acres focuses on building community relationships, selling primarily at the Kailua Town Farmers’ Market and through partnerships with local dining establishments.
To meet increasing demand, Ahiki Acres recently secured a 5.77-acre lease from the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture, aiming to expand its operations. Their expansion includes plans to construct 15 screen houses to boost crop yield and efficiency. Additionally, a portion of a Feed the Hunger Fund loan will be used to purchase 35 screen houses at wholesale, with the intention of selling some to other local farmers.
Founded by Haley Miyaoka and Matthew McKinnon, both of whom pursued different careers before returning to farming, the farm’s leadership brings diverse expertise. Haley, a chemical engineer, was driven to address food access and nutrition issues after witnessing challenges in underserved communities. Matthew, with a background in IT and general contracting, transitioned to farming, using his problem-solving skills to support the business. After completing the GoFarm Hawaiʻi program, the pair rapidly expanded Ahiki Acres from a 1⁄4-acre plot to 6 acres across two locations.
Ahiki Acres is committed to enhancing food security on Oʻahu by producing locally grown, nutritious vegetables while practicing responsible land stewardship. With a deep understanding of food insecurity issues in Waimānalo, the farm aims to provide fresh produce and educational resources to improve community health and reduce food insecurity rates.
